An Anthology from History Through Fiction

My story The Blood Stone of Shiva is featured in this new anthology, as a Top Ten prize winner in History Through Fiction's recent contest.
My first foray into historical fiction is an adventure and morality tale set in post-World War I India and England. A former British soldier seeks redemption for tragedies occurring after his acquisition of a sacred diamond from an Indian temple provokes an ancient curse. The setting was inspired by two of my favorite adventure films: "The Mummy" starring Brendan Fraser and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" starring Harrison Ford.

A House Fire on Woodside Road is a somber tale of two neighbors who visit the dark side of their relationship. This story features social conflict that I hadn't previously explored in my writing. I enjoyed stretching a new set of writerly "muscles."

I was thrilled when the editors of On The Premises invited me to be a Guest Writer. House Sitting by Betty features one of my favorite characters. Betty is a woman in her middle years who must confront personal demons as she faces significant life challenges. I've written several versions of her story. This one is my favorite.

The Offerings won the San Diego Public Library Prize for Best Short Fiction in 2023. It's a bittersweet love story with a touch of mystery. This version published in Elegant Literature is an abbreviated version of the story that won the SDPL Prize... but the emotional heat and its afterglow remain.
